If you haven't seen the movie "The Secret Life of Bees" I recommend renting it or viewing it on demand. I had read the book several years ago and I really enjoyed it. The movie follows the book, and the performances by the actors are very good. I watched the movie tonight, on demand, and enjoyed it immensely.
Today I spent more time trying to sort through some of Mom's paperwork, making sure bills are paid and taxes are up to date.
I re-read some of my postings from December. Looking back I see an ominous pattern indicating Mom's decline. Of course I cried as I re-read this. I'm so glad that I spent as much time as possible with her. And I'm doubly glad that I documented those precious memories.
It's back to the deep freeze for us temperature-wise. However the forecasters are predicting 30s by the end of the week. I'm so over the cold weather.

Nine Years and Counting
Mom has been gone for a little over nine years. This blog was a huge mechanism for helping me cope with her illness and daily downfall. I...

I'll have to check out the movie. I'm always up for good films.
I didn't have that end of things sorting out paperwork and paying bills. My brother is the executor of our parents estate and he has that honor:( I can appreciate the hard work though that goes into all that. Besides the physical part of it, the mental strain is terrible. Just a heads up. Don't be too quick to cancel the credit cards. The credit card companies will demand payment in full and give you a terrible time until it is received. Been there, done that. We tried to stay under the radar with many things, not drawing attention to Mom and Dad's death.
It's so hard to read back on old posts. It opens up a lot of feelings. The time you spent with your mom will bring you comfort in the days ahead. knowing you were there for her. She felt your presence and was in peace from that. It made a difference for her and comforted her.
Take care Robyn. Those highs and lows will hit suddenly and when they do, come back here and you will receive all the support we can give you. We are here for you and will help in any way we can.
I was also elected the one to close both my mom and my dad's final affairs. It was a real pain, not that it was difficult - but it really took an emotional toll on me. I dreaded sitting down to do the actual paperwork. It felt like I was dragging myself to the desk to do it.
Chris is so right about the good you did for your mom and how she felt your presence. I also hope you will come here or reach out when you feel the downs. Sometimes it is just all so sad.
Take care of you, Robyn. Rest assured you have done your very best.
and it seem like the paperwork never ends. just last night we met with my sister and brother-in-law to discuss things. now granted we have kept the house in door county so that prolongs things but little things keep popping up that you forget about.
thanks for the heads up about the life of bees, i too read the book years ago and enjoyed it.
you're doing good. hang in there.
