Deeply Disturbing

This story is appalling beyond belief. I've been haunted by this since it broke in late summer and it made me very upset and even more reluctant to place Mom. I would find it hard to control my rage around these individuals. They should be forced to register as sex offenders. The fact that they believed this treatment 'made their jobs more fun' angers me to no end.

This is horrible and somehow I don't think the one girl will ever learn - look at her father's statement about her "just doing her job". Yeah, it's part of a CNA's job description to poke elderly women in their breasts and hit them in their genitals.

I wish one of the residents would have hauled off and thumped them.

Yes, can you believe it? 'She was just doing her job'. She had better never cross my path. Either of them. Our loved ones are not animals, their human beings with amazing histories.

Absolutely disgusting! I can’t even begin to imagine what I would want to do to these CHILDREN if that had been one of MY parents. Unreal. I wonder what ever would make anyone want to hurt another person, especially an elderly person who is in such a vulnerable position. Where is the compassion? Where is the respect? What is wrong with people?!? This is just scary!

Its stories like these that convince my mum that every care home is the same, a place of degradation and misery. She constantly makes me promise I'll never "shove" her in a home. I hope I never have to make that decision because no matter how nice the home is, my mum will be terrified. Why don't the media give some publicity to good examples of care homes instead of focusing on the nightmares?

Instead of branding them and putting them in jail, maybe they could be compelled to spend time in a nursing home as residents. OT and PT could equip them with suitable accessories to hinder their physical and sensory abilities to that of an 80 year old with severe arthritis. They could be monitored by video 24/7 to make sure they followed their sentence to the letter, extending their sentences by twice the time if violating orders. They would then be forced to rely on staff 100% to meet their needs, including being fed, toileted, bathed, groomed, dressed, moved. This could be stretched out over a year. When their time was up, they would never be the same again. Best case scenario would be that they learn empathy for others and are truly sorry for what they've done. The entire time of this sentence, they would live with the fear of having things done to them that they have done to others - just from spite or spirit of payback.

I think that this would be an effective way to teach them some lessons they would never be able to forget. Especially as everyone of us, regardless of our age, is truly only an accident or illness away from the possibility of becoming a total care dependent person.

If they go to prison, they will continue to have the freedom to walk, use the toilet, feed themselves, use the phone, watch TV, use a computer, read books, etc. Then when they get out, what then?

Anonymous, I really do like your idea. Maybe then they would understand just how truly horrible what they did is.

Disgusting little twits! I, too, like anons suggestion as to how to handle these young monsters. I doubt they have any respect for their own parents or grandparents.

Certainly makes me think twice about decisions that I thought of making.

Nine Years and Counting

Mom has been gone for a little over nine years. This blog was a huge mechanism for helping me cope with her illness and daily downfall. I...
