Common Anesthetic Induces Alzheimer's-associated Changes In Mouse Brains

ScienceDaily (2008-11-14) -- For the first time researchers have shown that a commonly used anesthetic can produce changes associated with Alzheimer's disease in the brains of living mammals, confirming previous laboratory studies. Scientists have shown how administration of the gas isoflurane can lead to generation of the toxic amyloid-beta protein in the brains of mice.

of all the associations i have heard over the years linked with AD, this is the only one that russ had a connection with, so of course i have to put some creditably to it. we may never really know so what i truly hope for is a cure or vaccine down the line. the statistics for incidence will only get worse over time, not better, i fear.

nancy, that's one connection that my Mom has too. She had had a series of surgeries within a few years of the first signs of dementia. Her father too.
