Now I'm not sure that it's the ankle that is hurting Mom. I guess it's a communication problem; she says her right foot hurts. I pointed at various parts of my foot and leg and asked if that is what hurts. Now it sounds like her toes hurt. She could barely make it to and from the bathroom after dinner tonight. And there is the crux of the problem with the day program and everything else. She can't get around. She cries in pain. Tomorrow we are going to the doctor for her annual physical and I hope we can finally get to the bottom of this pain. But I'm doubtful.

I am pretty sure that dad sometimes was hurting and either told me something else or really thought it was something else.
Hoping you all can find some relief.
i remember all too well days like that. AD can be SO frustrating in that our LO's can't verbalize what is hurting them and it gets to be a real deciphering game. i will be thinking of you tomorrow. let us know how it goes.
I hope the doctor can get to the bottom of your mom's pain. I also remember having to play detective to find the problem.
By the way - is your mom diabetic? My mom had a lot of pain in her feet from her diabetic neuropathy.

I was going to ask the same question Betsy asked about being diabetic. Mom says her feet and legs ache all the time. I took her to the podiatrist faithfully every eight weeks to have her toenails clipped. That always seemed to help remove some of the pressure when she walked.
Mom hasn't been diagnosed with diabetes, thank God. I'm not sure I could handle that along with everything else. I don't know how you and Betsy do/did it!
You know we finally figured out that dad was suffering from Neuropathy and we used Neurontin in liquid form as well as ABHR cream.
He became really sensitive to people touching him.
He had diabetes but I remember the hospice nurse telling me that in her experience a number of Alzheimer's patients had been helped by Neurontin.
I just remembered that mom's endocrinologist (diabetic doctor) had me give mom cinnamon to help combat the neuropathy. Just a thought.
When I couldn't give dad his insulin injections because of combativeness I gave him cinnamon. But it did seem to lower his blood sugar. Hadn't heard about the neuropathy results.
