We met more neighbors tonight. They have a beautiful cat named Run To. Cindy brought Run To down to meet Mom and Mom held Run To. Then of course Satine came over and it was animal lollapalooza. Cindy and Jan are great. We are getting to know practically everyone on our alley. It's nice. I'm not looking forward to winter at all. Mom said the same thing.

It's 10:30 PM and Mom is weepy because she doesn't want to be alone while she's in bed. I'm not going to sleep in her room. I just spent 40 minutes soothing her. What to do? I snored in her ear and told her that I snore when I sleep. Maybe that will convince her it's better to sleep alone.

Could you get Mom a stuffed animal? I've seen many of our ADLO's form an attachement to one and it seems to soothe, especially at night. I don't blame you for not wanting to sleep in her room - you need some time to yourself.

Thanks for the idea, I might just give that a try. Mom's case worker with the home health agency also suggested playing soft music which I had been toying with doing too. You always have the best ideas! Thank you.

i agree with betsy. my dad sleeps with a stuffed animal and it seems to help. i'm sure he would be horrified if he realized what it was but i started to think in his terms. for 56+ years he slept with my mom. now he doesn't recognize anything or anyone and he sleeps all by himself in what i'm sure is a strange room to him every night. it's worth a try. soft music also helps to calm my dad when he gets anxious. good luck!

We are trying the soft music now as I type this. Mom expressed that she misses my dad and she doesn't like to sleep alone. So next I will try a stuffed animal and maybe I can convince her cat to sleep in the room too. Poor kitty gave up when Mom would get angry and say she didn't need anyone to 'take care of her' she's not a baby.
