Mom wanted to know how her son was doing so we gave them a call. He is doing good. His daughter, my niece, had a panic attack on her first day of college. I am so glad that she was only a 1/2 hour from home so that she could come home and get her bearings. She's back in the dorm tonight, getting ready for classes tomorrow.
It has been raining all weekend which means that the search and recovery efforts at the I-35W bridge had to be suspended. Meanwhile, more info has been coming out about the bridge and it's insufficiency. MN-DOT was trying to figure out a way to fix beams that were cracking. It's scary stuff and it sounds like there were several alarming issues that should have been addressed way earlier. Brakes put on Bridge Work
Mom has really been with it for the last week. It's uncanny and I can almost believe that nothing is wrong. She is confused, but not nearly as much as she has been in the past. It is a welcome relief for me. I know the pendulum can swing the other way though at a moment's notice.

I'm sorry your neice had a panic attack. I can relate! My daughter was all set to go to a university about an hour from home when at the last minute (maybe 2 weeks before), she asked if she could stay home and commute to a local school instead. She never regretted it and will graduate this December. It's hard for some kids to go away to school.
It seems we get your weather about a day or so after it starts there. Today has been rainy and cool all day.
I'm sorry the recovery effort has been delayed and even sorrier to see the flaws in the bridge repairs. It's time for some federal aide. We are discovering a lot of bad bridges here in Pittsburgh as a result of the catastrophy there.

Betsy, Our local paper had a big article about bridges in Pittsburgh. Sounds pretty scary.
I also went off to college and ended up coming back home and commuting. I was quite happy with that.
Mom gets so lonely during the day. I'm gone for 10.5 hours (I have a 2 hour commute round trip) and she hates that I'm gone for that long and I'm not thrilled about it either.
You all have really had the weather, too. I think the elevated portion of I-40 in Oklahoma City is one number worse than your bridge that collapsed. I always wondered about that thing when I'd be stuck in a traffic jam on it.
I've worked from home the last 12 years and I like that commute a lot. But I'm glad of all you real workers out there. Someone has to do it.
